TCF7L2 and weight loss

There are some genes that widely known to be related to weight regulation. Some of them play important role in adipogenesis, while the others regulate glucose metabolism. TCF7L2 or transcription factor 7 like 2 is a gene that encode protein involved in blood glucose homeostasis. Interestingly, this gene is reported not only regulates glucose metabolism but also a wider systemic processes. Studies shown that TCF7L2 be regulates adipogenesis indirectly via Wnt signalling. Some evidences also shown that this gene is associated with appetite and food intake.
Recent study done by Mattei et al. shown that invidual with rs12255372 risk genotype of TCF7L2 be able to reduce total body fat by low fat diet after 2 years. This study was done in Boston, Massachusetts, and Baton Rouge, Lousiana, USA.
